The amazing Iongen completely eliminates string algae!

The IonGen™ Second- generation electronic Algae Controller for Ponds, Pondless® Waterfalls and other decorative water features drastically reduces maintenance and provides crystal clear water without the use of chemicals...and eliminates String Algae.

A microprocessor inside the IonGen™ release ions from a scientifically blended and tested probe that achieves maximum treatment results in water features.

Most effective when used inline - usually easiest to catch pipe coming out of skimmer -  but can "Dangle Naked" as Aquascape calls it by merely dropping in the Skimmer, BioFalls, stream or anywhere the water passes through..

  • Eliminates string algae
  • Drastically reduces pond maintenance
  • Helps eliminate unsightly water conditions without the use of chemicals
  • Simple to install
  • Can be used with fish and plants
  • Energy efficient (less than $1 a month in electricity cost)
  • Treats ponds up to 25,000 gallons
  • May be dropped in Skimmer or BioFalls
  • Probe typically lasts 1-3 seasons, depending on the ionization level it is operated at, size of pond and water parameters of the water feature.
  • Complete with electronic control panel, outdoor-rated transformer, flow chamber, probe, fittings, copper test kit, and owner's manual

How does the Aquascape IonGen™ G2 System Help Control String Algae?

The Aquascape IonGen™ System releases a calculated mixture of copper ions into the path of flowing water. The IonGen™ Control Panel sends signals that slowly dissolve the replaceable probe. The ions produced by the probe treat the water and reduce string algae, as well as drastically reduce maintenance and the need for liquid pond chemicals.

Note25' Extension Cords with Quick- Connect may be used to extend either the 15' Cord from the Probe to the Control Panel or the Control Panel to the Transformer

Breaking News from Aquascape – FINALLY we can say what we knew all along – The IonGen KILLS String Algae!

EPA Registration for IonGen

Aquascape, Inc.is proud to announce EPA registration of its IonGen™. The IonGen™ is an electronic water clarifier for use in ornamental ponds and waterfalls.

The IonGen™ effectively kills algae without the use of traditional chemicals and is designed with a microprocessor that sends a signal to its probe.  The probe then produces ions to help control algae throughout the entire water feature.

“The IonGen™ System is one of our most effective methods for controlling string algae in ponds, Pondless® Waterfalls and other decorative water features.” states Dave Kelly, Aquascape's VicePresident of Product Management.

“There are many great benefits in using the IonGen™,” Kelly said.  “But the number one comment we hear from customers is that the IonGen™ allows them to spend less time maintaining their water feature and more time enjoying it.”

Benefits and features of Aquascape’s

Frequently Asked Questions:

Question:

Does Probe get eaten up as fast if turned off?

Answer:

No, it will not degrade at all. The electricity from the panel is what releases the copper ions from the probes causing it to degrade.

Replacing your old Original IonGen Tee and Probe with the the new Generation Two Flow Chamber

If you have the original Generation One IonGen Tee and Probe and would like to replace the Tee with the new Generation Two Flow Chamber, please select one of the two options below:

  • Option 1 - Cap your original Tee with a standard 2 Inch Male Threaded PVC Plug and simply install the new unit in another section of pipe
  • Option 2 - Carefully cut the IonGen™ [G1] Tee-Fitting out of the pipeline right at edges of the fitting.
Because the IonGen™ [G2] Flow Chamber is longer than the [G1] Tee-Fitting, you will have just enough room to install the Flow Chamber in the same spot. You may even have to trim a bit of the excess pipe.

The new Flow Chamber is on top and the old-style Tee is below it. Please note the size difference.

Question: If my Generation One Control panel died, can I replace it with the new Generation Two Control Panel?

    Answer

They made some huge improvements to the Control Panel with Gen Two:

    1.      A percentage of the Gen 1 panels got moisture in them causing them to fail. They completely water-proofed Gen 2.

    2.      A percentage of the Gen 1‘s developed corrosion between the connection of the Control Panel wire and the top of the probe. This has been corrected

    3.      They digitized the Gen 2 Panel

    4.      The old wires were hardwired in. The new Gen 2 Control Panel only #95017 come with 25’ of wire with the new Quick-connects that the Aquascape lighting uses between the Panel and the Probe as well as the Panel and the transformer. If you need more distance, you can buy the 25’ Extension cables with Quick-connects on each end at /home/tpo/page_5056

You can use the original Gen 1
    Probes with the Gen
    Two Control Panels ( #95017 for $95.98)
but you need the Conversion Wire #95018
    to make it work.

PondMeister Breaking News 6/14/13 - Aquascape announces the Conversion Wire #95017 which connected the Gen 2 Control Panels to the Gen 1 Probes #98881 is discontinued. In order to connect the Gen Two Control Panel, you will need the new 1.5 Probe that is being released shortly. Please read below:

    Frequently Asked Questions:

    Question:

Does it hurt IonGen to be turned on with no water going through

    Aquascape Tech Answer:

The iongen will not suffer if it is left on with no water flowing past it. The panel will most likely show 00 but once water is flowing again it will take a reading and return to the previous setting. If it was going to be without water for an extended period of time like with Snowbirds or for winter, we would recommend unplugging it.

    Question:

If a customer is in Denver, do they need to take the Control Panel and the probe in for the winter?

    Aquascape Tech Answer:

The panel should be brought inside but the probe may be left outside if it is in-line. Aquascape recommends taping the probes with electrical tape to be safe. If you do not have the probes in-line but are "Dangling Naked" in the Skimmer, BioFalls, etc then it would be best to bring the probe in as well.

Question:

Which quick-connect outlet does the cord to the Transformer and which side goes to the probe? Does it matter?

Aquascape Tech Answer:

No, it doesn’t matter.

Question:

Installed about a week ago. Bubbles started next day after installation. What are the bubbles and how do I get rid of them?

Aquascape Tech Answer:

When organic material such as string algae decomposes it can cause bubbles due to gas/oxygen release. It is nothing to be concerned about & will stop over time.

Question:

No,measuring spoon came with my IonGen?

Aquascape Tech Answer::

The spoon is more like a toothpick with a claw/cobra head vs a traditional spoon. I have attached a picture, due to its small size it can be difficult to see in box. I emptied out the box I pulled in order to find it.

Question:

I have two questions please about maintenance/storage in the winter for the Iogen.

1) Should I clean/scrape the probes? Clean off the "green"copper buildup.

2) Should I store the probes in water or keep dry?

Aquascape Tech Answer:

I would recommend cleaning the probes with a wire brush & storing dry.

Customer Question:

I am in a very cold climate. How do I winterize my IonGen Control Panel and Probe?

Aquascape Tech Answer:

You can leave the probes in the flow chamber over winter. I would remove & store the control panel in a frost-free locations

Customer Question:

What  should I set my IonGen when I first get it it?

Aquascape Tech Answer:

So directions recommend starting with a clean pond…so if no string algae like after a cleanout then start at a 1. Bump up if necessary, but keep in mind that it doesn’t kill overnight like the Algaecide or Debris Clarifier. Usually we start looking for results in about 2 weeks.

This is assuming KH was checked before installing and it is in the correct range.

If there is already a bad algae bloom I might put it at 5, but I would recommend that they try and manually cut back the string algae as much as possible. The longer the stands are the more copper it will take to kill it…. Plus then you have all that dead plant material that you have to get out of the pond….to prevent a green water bloom….

Once it is turning brown and dying go ahead and lower down to 1 or 2. In cooler months or in ponds without plants copper levels should be checked more frequently since there is no “governor” to make sure the levels don’t go too high. When there is no String algae and no plants or dormant plants the copper levels can rise because there is nothing pulling it out.

Florida Customer  Tom C. Comment 2/5/14:

By the way, the iongen system works excellently. I had a big string algae problem in my pond. I have 3 waterfalls and it was constantly getting algae buildup on the falls and in the parts of the pond.

I have the system running right after the pump just for the filters.

Now the problem is gone. And no harm to the fish

HIGHLY recommended

California Customer Kieran. Comment 5/26/14:

"By the way, the copper anode thing you recommended I buy worked incredibly well for my 6,000 gallon pond. I’m actually stunned at how well it worked. I only turned it up to 5 for about a week and now it operates on the lowest setting and my water is completely algae free. Quite amazed."

Michigan Customer Linda. Comment April 7, 2105

"After many years of using chemicals that didn’t work very well in my 10,000 gallon pond/stream water feature your ion probe did a great job during the second half of last summer. With a fresh probe for 2015 I’m looking forward to an algae free season. Thanks for encouraging me to try it."

Happy!

my new ion gen2 has only been in my pond for a couple of weeks....and I can see the algae disappearing slowly. I don't want to kill my fish so I've set it at 6. In the first couple of days I could see the algae dying on the waterfall....and now I can see a huge difference in the algae all over the pond. It's not all gone as yet.... but I can see it going away. I was going to fill that hole in with dirt this year....I was so overwhelmed with that damn algae I am so happy....I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Great product..well worth the cost of it. thank you!!!!

Finally a Product that Works!!

This Aquascape Iongen System was a life changer! For the past 10 years, I’ve spent every Spring and Summer treating my pond for string algae and algae bloom. I did everything I was told to control it. I installed filters, uv lights, skimmers, and aerators. I bought bio-balls, chemicals, barley extract and barley bales, a dozen skimmer nets for scooping algae, consulted with pond “experts”, spent hours vacuuming nearly every day and paid enormous water bills as a result. Finally, after years of back breaking work and having run through two pond vacuums, I phoned the Pond Outlet to order my 3rd vacuum in hopes that a new improved one would somehow lessen my work. Thankfully, Richard told me to try the copper ionizer. Within two days, I could see it was working and it cleared up my entire 15,000 gallon pond in 3 weeks. My fish and plants are thriving and I have a crystal clear pond despite having the warmest Spring on record. As retirees, we now have more free time to actually ENJOY the nice weather and our beautiful clear pond. Sunny days used to mean one thing for us---WORK. The Aquascape IonGen was truly a life saver and we will be eternally grateful for Richard’s suggestion and Aquascape’s superb product.

Ion gen system

At last!! No more expensive uv lights or chemical! I’ve been using mine in a 10000gal pond for two years! I have fish and plants and it doesn’t seem to effect them at all! Much cheaper than uv and way more effective!
