Ask the PondMeister!

I just got a new supply of fish food. Unfortuntely, the fish refuse to eat it. It floats nicely. The fish ingest it and then spit it out. This process repeats itself till all the food is on the bottom of the pond—feeding my spring algae bloom. Any suggestions?

Hopefully you are waiting until your WATER temperature is above 55 degrees before you attempt to feed your fish. Sometimes the fish will eat food when the water temp is below 55 but it is not good for them as they will not be able to digest the food. Fish are still sluggish at that temperature. The only food you should feed them when the water is between 45 and 55 degrees is the winter food which has wheat germ which is easier to digest.
