Question

I have a 10,000 gal pond and heard that Rapid Clear would kill the Beneficial Bacteria Do I need to put in more Beneficial Bacteria after putting in Rapid Clear?

Aquascape Tech Answer:

He has to understand the way flocculents work. They cause small particles to clump together (attracts particulate to tiny “branches” which start to form clumps). So any additive (powder) dosed at the same time will be clumped up….. kinda like a vacuum cleaner…it doesn’t know the difference between dirt or shoelaces it just sucks up anything in its path.

So we recommend adding SAB 24 -48hrs after treating with a flocculent ( to help remove Phosphates) you could also dose with bacteria at that time. Rapid clear does not “kill” bacteria it just clumps up any particulate. We will also use it after heavy rains or post construction (like at a home show) to remove the murkiness from rock dust.

Question:

Here is a picture of that pond I cleaned out last Friday. It has a real fine "powdered" algae that just sits on the rocks and gravel! If you can contact your suppliers and find out the best way to remove it, that would be great!

Aquascape Tech Answer:

I would recommend using the rapid clear flocculant along with the rapid clear fine filter pad (3-pack) #80001. They will want to stir up the sediment when applying & have the pond running so that it will move toward the skimmer onto the filter pad. They may have to do this more than once.
