Sugar kettles were used in 19th Century plantations where sugar cane was placed in these large iron pots and cooked down to produce sugar. The Sugar Kettle is primarily a product of the South, where large cotton and sugar plantations were located. They could withstand the heat and could produce large amounts of food for the plantation occupants. Over time, the kettles were no longer needed for cooking so other uses were found. The majority of Sugar Kettles were sent off to be melted down for the nation's war efforts during World War 2.
We were able to obtain some of these unique treasures and have them reproduced. Our customers use them for planters, water fountains, gardens, and even fire pits. However you choose to use your sugar kettle, it will enhance the beauty of your yard.

PondMaster Note: In order to drill a hole in the Kettle, you will need a diamond-tipped drill bit as the Kettles are about 1/2" thick. We can have that done upon request at the manufacturers as it requires about 4 hours of labor to drill a 2" Bulkhead Fitting hole.
Water Feature:
They can be set up individually or tiered for a cascading water feature. Our fountains are perfect for creating a focal point to your landscape, patio, or yard. In many cases, large commercial size fountains are often placed in town centers, large backyards, hotels and business courtyards and bring a sense of serenity that can help shield road or background noise.
Try placing water flowers, lilies, or other water plants within your water feature to liven it up. And, of course, water bubblers or sprayers always make for fun features.
Fire Pit Feature:
They are easily set up so you can start enjoying the warmth and relaxation of gathering around a glowing and crackling fire quickly. The round open design of a sugar kettle fire bowl gives you a 360 degree seating area and more area for warmth as the heat rises up along the wall of the kettle.
You can burn wood in them naturally, run a gas line to it as an igniter, or use a gas line in coordination with lava rocks, gas logs or sand. Let your imagination be your guide. Please note you requirements prior to placing your order.

Customer Question:
Do people seal the sugar kettles with anything or do they allow them to continue to rust/age?
Blue Thumb Answer:
Most people allow them to continue to rust/age, but they can be sealed with a clear spray on sealant, either inside or out. We do not have instructions on how the customer would do this, but google restoring or sealing iron kettle brings up some good results.
Customer Question:
The discoloration is definitely the rusting of the kettle; which I would expect - but am hoping that the water will eventually run clear (or something I can add to? or a technique to remove the sediment as it settles on the bottom?
Blue Thumb Answer:
This water will clear up over time as the rust settles to the bottom of the basin. The customer may use Carbon Clear - 5 lb,#PB2712 or a Flocculant (Fountain Clear - 8 oz #PB2835) to speed up the process of clearing the water. Cast Iron and water just need some time to get to know each other😉. Please feel free to reach out with any further questions or assistance needed.
Customer Question:
Do you sell stands for the kettles? We are going to use ours as fire pits?
Blue Thumb Answer:
No stands. Customers that use these for fire typically recess them into the ground slightly to secure them
Customer Question:
Why do you not offer the 59" Kettle Kit anymore?
Blue Thumb Answer:
The 59" Sugar Kettle Fountain kit is no longer available for a few reasons. The main reason being the pump that operates this system is a $1,000.00 pump and we were finding it was unable to appropriately operate the fountain for a sustainable amount of time. This partnered with other challenges this fountain was creating. We are unable to offer this fountain kit and be confident in the long term operation. Apologies for the inconvenience.
