Customer Review:

G & D from Sparta, TN: Thank you for assisting us in the selection of the mesh pictured below, to help protect our fancy goldfish. It was exactly what we wanted. It worked really well with our new deck pond.

Below is the pond @ night before the protection of the plastic grate. The lip on the inside of the pond was great to lay the grate over. (Too bad the company we bought the pond from didn't sell a protection cover and didn't send the correct pump with the pond). I placed some lightweight rocks around the edges to secure it from possums and raccoons. The plastic grate and the lip edge were strong enough to support the lightweight rocks.

Customer Question:

I have just installed a 10 x 20 pond in my backyard. I used to have one of your pre-formed ponds and a net over it, but the critters just chewed through the net and left my fish in pieces for my 10 year old to find. Not a good day. I am wondering about the Plastic Mesh item:

1) How do you attach it to your pond? The description says: "Use with cage fittings below to make floating pens and cages" but there are no cage fittings listed on the page.

2) How do I determine which size openings I need: you have 1/4", 1/2", 1/8" and 3/4".

3) Can it be cut? 50' is pretty big.

4) Can I leave it out all winter? My fishies will not be coming in during the winter. I have a bubbler and heater for the pond.

Easy Pro Answer:

I think I spent some time on the phone with Ali yesterday. The plastic netting is something that is used for making holding cages, covers for tanks, screens for overflow pipes, etc. The size of the plastic mesh is basically decided on how big the fish are that are being contained or what size of debris that is being blocked from going down an overflow pipe.

Yes the netting can be cut with scissors or a box knife. It is only available in the widths shown on our price sheet and in our catalog. To make it large enough to cover her pond I suggested to her that she could zip tie pieces together to make the size netting she needs for her pond.

To leave it out all winter I would be concerned a heavy snow could cause it to sink into the pond without proper support.

This is the information I gave her. Please note we haven't really had anyone use it to cover a pond so this is kind of a new one for me. Though another idea is if she uses PVC fittings to create a frame that she can zip tie the netting to and just lay over her pond.... Or maybe a couple smaller screens laid side by side to cover the pond and provide additional support for the netting..

Customer Question:

I am confused on why this is such an issue to ship.

This is a fairly small piece of netting.

Can't it just be folded up and put in a small box? It seems that your warehouse is just cutting of a bunk and rolling onto a tube making it very expensive to ship.

Please ask again if there is another way to pack it.

Easy Pro Answer:

I think your customer is right. This netting could be folded up into a smaller size and shipped out. However, this is a stiff plastic netting. If the netting is folded to ship it will permanently crease and could potentially be weaker at the folded sections. I checked with our shipping department. They estimated that by folding a 4' x 4' piece of the PN125 netting they may be able to get it into a 15"x18"x3" package to ship. At this size the approximate shipping cost drops down to $21.00 via FedEx Ground. I do want to note that $21.00 is pretty much the basic cost of shipping a FedEx package now. Shipping is just getting expensive. If your customer does decide to go this route it is with the understanding that the netting is not returnable. Also, specify in the order that it is okay to fold the netting for reduced shipping costs.
