Generation Two IonGen has now arrived!

Aquascape has just released the new Generation Two IonGen and we have plenty available. The Generation Two IonGen has a newly engineered digital Control Panel (still only takes one watt to drive) as well as a new Flow Control Chamber which houses the probe.

To recap the IonGen’s history, the IonGen was first introduced on September 1, 2009 with high expectations. A number of the Aquascape employees tried out the unit in their own ponds that summer and were raving about it. FINALLY something that ELIMINATES string algae!

My 6,000 gallon pond in sunny Southern California was blanketed with string algae in the early years. I would do “harvests” about every 3 weeks and could fill up a garbage can with the stuff. I finally discovered that I could keep it somewhat at bay if I used EcoBlast, AlgaeFix, Green Clean, etc every 3 days for 2 or 3 weeks in the spring and then once a week thereafter for the duration of the summer. This was a royal pain as well as very expensive.

So it was in great anticipation that I installed the IonGen on September 6th, 2009/ Holy Cow – the algae turned red and then black and then was gone! In the past 3 years I have not used one grain of EcoBlast (I do continue to use the Beneficial Bacteria for Ponds-Dry by Aquascape).

We have sold an average of about 375 a year for the past 3 years and the feedback has been awesome. I would say that we have had problems with only about 3% of the applications and it is usually related to some strange water conditions (Gunite ponds, turning the pumps off for half the day, funky well water, etc).

There were a few units where moisture had compromised the Control Panel and some issues related to the connection between the Control Panel and the Probe. These have all been addressed with the new Gen Two IonGen and as a result, the IonGens now have a THREE YEAR WARRANTY!

The new units also have a 15′ cord between the Control Panel and the Probe as well as another 15′ cord between the Control Panel and the Transformer. The 25′ Extension Cables with Quick-Connects can be used for further distances.

Dave Kelly, Aquascape’s Tech Guy, reviews our next generation IonGen™ (G2) system in this week’s video above.

I own the Aqua IonGen for two seasons. Can I upgrade to the latest system at a reduced price. My IonGen #98943 currently works fine. Let me know.

The Generation 2 ionGen works GREAT! I live in Indiana and run my stream pump all winter. Do I turn off my Ion Gen during the winter? If so, when?

    • It is recommended to shut down the IonGen™ System in regions that have climates
that experience cold temperatures. The water feature is dormant this time of year
and there will be nothing utilizing the copper, which could create elevated copper
    levels.
    • When starting the IonGen™ back up in Spring make sure to wait for the visual cues,
such as debris attached to the rocks and gravel to begin to appear again before
raising the ionization level. Raising the ionization level when there is nothing
utilizing the ions could create elevated copper levels.
    • The copper level should not exceed 0.25 ppm (mg/L).

We have used the IonGen I with great success for 3 years. We ordered and installed a new probe a week ago. It ran for 1-2 days then the red light came on. I cleaned everything but now see condensation in the controller. Previous notes make me think this is the kiss of death to my IonGen controller.
My question is, can we return the new probe for credit towards a new IonGen 2 setup? I still have the packing box, etc. IonGens are the only thing to keep our pond clear so we’re anxious to get this going! Your help is appreciated!

    Hi Melanie,
They made some huge improvements to the Control Panel with Gen Two:
    1. A percentage of the Gen 1 panels got moisture in them causing them to fail. They completely water-proofed Gen 2.
    2. A percentage of the Gen 1‘s developed corrosion between the connection of the Control Panel wire and the top of the probe. This has been corrected.
    3. They digitized the Gen 2 Panel
    4. The old wires were hardwired in. The new Gen 2 models come with 25’ of wire with the new Quick-connects that the Aquascape lighting uses between the Panel and the Probe as well as the Panel and the transformer. If you need more distance, you can buy the 25’ Extension cables with Quick-connects on each end at http://www.thepondoutlet.com/home/tpo/page_5056

You can use the original Gen 1 Probes with the Gen Two Control Panels ( #95017 for $95.98) at http://www.thepondoutlet.com/home/tpo/page_5056 but you need the Conversion Wire #95018 at the same link to make it work

    Best Regards,
