Is used to prepare the surface to ensure a firm bond. Always recommended. Soap and water clean-up. Covers 100 to 150 square feet per gallon.

Neoprene Rubber Coating is an excellent finish to cover cement blocks to be used in the pond, stop leaks in concrete waterfalls, or cover concrete or block or other masonry type ponds.

One coat of primer and three coats or liquid rubber are recommended for complete sealing of surface. Water may be added as early as 24 hours after last coat has dried. Fish can be added 72 hours later. (We still recommended that a normal pond establishment period pass after stocking with plants before putting in fish) Each gallon of coating covers approximately 100 to 150 square feet for the three coats needed.

POND SHIELD EPOXY FAQ

So PondMeister - What works better and is easier to apply - Pond Armor or Herco by Hecht Rubber?

Tough question. Pond Armor has to mix part A and part B. (Epoxy) It is more like a paint. We probably sell more Pond Armor. Herco is a rubber product. It would have a cushion feel to it. No mixing and can be painted on to EPDM rubber liner, Pond Armor can not. More colors available with Pond Armor. We stock Pond Armor and we do not stock Herco, but they drop ship very quickly, sometimes the same day. Both must be painted over a good surface, with out chipping away old paint. Pond Armor suggests acid etching when painting over new concrete, where Herco suggests primer be used. They both are only as good as the surface they are painted on so both must be prepped according to the instructions..

Instructions for Use

Step 1: Proper surface preparation is the key to a successful application. Pond surface must be fully cured, clean, dry and free from any oil or grease. Remove all debris by brushing, sweeping or power washing. Clean the pond surface thoroughly with HERCO Cleaner before applying coating.

Step 2: Apply one (1) coat of HERCO PSC Primer to entire surface of your pond using brush, roller or spraygun. Allow primer coat to dry a minimum of 3 to 4 hours.

Step 3: Apply three (3) consecutive coats of HERCO Coating using quality brush, short-nap roller or spraygun. Drying time can vary depending on temperature, humidity and other conditions. Allow a minimum of 3 to 4 hours between coats. Do not apply at temperatures below 45F, above 90F or if inclement weather is expected before coating is completely dry.

Step 4: Allow the final coat of HERCO Coating to cure at least 5 days. Rinse the entire pond surface thorougly with fresh water, flush or backwash your filter and drain completely before filling with water. Tap water generally needs to be “detoxed“ in your pond to neutralize all traces of chlorine and chloramines. Start up your biological filter and verify proper water chemistry (pH, Alkalinity, Oxygen, Ammonia, Nitrite) before adding any fish. This is very important.

Step 5: It is highly recommended that several small “test“ feeder fish be added to the pond to verify that the aquatic environment is safe and in order to build up your pond’s biological filter slowly. If the “test“ fish are healthy and behaving normally after 48 hours, begin adding your larger fish gradually, no more than two at a time every 24 hours. Keep a close eye on your fish and your pond chemistry during this period. If any of your fish show any signs of distress or unusual activity, contact us immediately for assistance. Our team of pond experts draws on decades of experience and is committed to the health and well being of your fish.

Herco Pond - Mixed Feelings

I bought this product and expected it to create a thick rubber membrane over my concrete pond surface. The job seemed to go ok, until I got to the amount to use on my pond. I was told 3 coats on top of one coat of primer. Well, it also says that I will get 80-100 square feet per gallon. Once I started spreading, it became quite clear that I needed more material than the calculation described. So, I had to almost double my order, which really sucked. However, the product is working still (6 months later) and seems pretty good. Not to happy with the sales, but the product is good.
