Then when the pressure is relived the valve will close back again.
A minimum pond depth of 5ft is recommended to get enough pressure for this item to work.

Question: Is there a way to install a Waterway HRV112 Hydrostatic Relief Valve after the pond liner (45 mil EPDM) is in place?
Answer (from Supplier): I am sure it has been accomplished. But because the valve is attached to a 1 1/2" or a 2" bulkhead fitting, it makes it very difficult. The bulkhead fitting splits in half. One half of the fitting needs to be installed under the liner. The other half of the fitting is then attached on the top of liner through the hole in the liner. These two parts of the bulk head fitting are then tightened together. The valve is then attached to the bulk head fitting. I am not sure how the bulk head fitting can be securely tightened without using a large channel lock on the part that is installed under liner. That being said, I do think that bulk head fittings have been installed in liner after the fact. I am just not sure how it can be accomplished.
