Useful Tips:

- Open yellow ring on handle for extended suction time. Close with finger for increased suction power.

- Place Vacuum tank up high so that drain out hose with flapper valve is lower than bottom of tank.

- Use smallest vac head possible for the job in order to prolong suction time.

- Periodically check the flapper valve on end of drain hose for obstructions and good movement.

Question:

What Vacuum should I use for my 4 ponds that total 2500 gallons connected with two creeks that are only 3" to 6" deep and a total of 50' long. The problem we seem to face with our ponds is depth related as the vacuums need to be submerged to a certain depth in order to have suction and the water feature has a large amount of surface area that is shallow.

Matala USA Answer:

From your approximate dimensions you may have 2500 gallons total between the two ponds.

We have 4 vacuums to choose from total but really two types.

First type is the On/Off auto cycle vac. The vacuum fills with dirty water and turns off to drain out for 20 to 3o seconds and then comes back on automatically to continue vacuuming.

If you choose this type I feel you would be the most happy with the Pond Vac “Pro”. It is the largest in this series and would be a good choice for this size pond. It is certainly strong enough and does not depend on a minimum water depth to work.

The second type is the continuous discharge “Power-Cyclone” It is contractor grade and has two motors.

The intake motor will vacuum up to 1500 gallons per hour and the internal discharge motor continuous discharges under pressure. This makes it easy to drain your waste even to an uphill location. There is nothing like this vacuum on the market. It is a little expensive but well worth the results.
