Now you can monitor your Freshwater or Marine Aquarium, or your pond, right from the comfort of your computer screen. For the first time ever, all the information that you need to maintain a healthy and attractive aquarium is right at your fingertips.

The Seneye system constantly and continuously monitors key parameters of your Aquarium or pond and sends alerts to your email or mobile phone if a parameter goes out of range. The list of what this little ( in size only) device can do is seemingly endless, but here is the short version of the key values that your Seneye will keep you aware of.

  • 5 in 1 Monitor for your critical life parameters
  • Reliable and accurate, forecast engine can tell you before there is a problem
  • Alerts sent directly to your email if there is a problem!
  • Easy to use!

Water Values Monitored:

1. Ammonia as NH3 is the number one cause of fish and invertebrate death in an aquarium or pond. If NH3 values are not monitored and corrected quickly, your fish and other life in your tank will suffer and quite possibly die. The Seneye Monitoring System monitors this very toxic by-product of fish metabolism and alerts you when levels become unsafe. By using your Seneye system to monitor NH3 ammonia levels in your water, your fish and all life in your tanks will be happy and healthy.

2. PH is the Acidity or Alkalinity of any substance. The fish and coral in your tanks can usually adapt to a wide range of PH, but sudden changes in PH can be catastrophic to all life in your tanks, including your biological filter. The Seneye Monitoring System continually monitors PH levels in your tank and alerts you if it reaches dangerous levels.

3. Temperature is just that, how cold or cool or warm or hot the water in your tank is. Like PH, many animals in your tank can adapt to changes in water temperature, but sudden swings can kill your fish and coral before you even know it is changed. The Seneye Monitoring System will monitor the temperature in your tank and tell you - wherever you are - that it has changed to a dangerous level.

Light Values Monitored:

1. PAR or Photosynthetically Active Radiation - is the specific light wavelength that Zooxanthellae - the algae that live inside your coral and keep them healthy and colorful - require to live. The Seneye PAR meter will tell you not only the amount of this critical light spectrum in your aquarium, but exactly where it is and where exactly to place your precious coral to maximize their color, health and growth. As a side note, a good quality PAR meter by itself costs over $400.

2. Lux is simply the measurement of light intensity. One lux is the brightness of one candle. Coral need different degrees of light intensity - and by pointing the Seneye Light Monitor at any point in your aquarium, you can find the ideal spot to place your coral.

3. Kelvin is a characteristic of visible light that is commonly referred to - somewhat inaccurately - as the temperature of light. However, Kelvin can be used in a general sense when describing light as having a certain temperature. For example white light at a Kelvin rating of under 5000K ( Kelvin ) is said to have a warm color - more red - whereas light over 5000k is said to be cooler - bluer - in temperature. Kelvin in Aquaria is generally a function of what is pleasing to the eye of the Aquarist more than a value significant to the livestock in your tank. If you prefer warmer colors - then Kelvin ratings under 6000k would be more pleasing to you. However, if you are looking for sharper coloring, then light with a Kelvin from 8000k and up would be more pleasing to you. The Seneye Monitoring System will give you a Kelvin rating of any part of your aquarium and you can adjust the lights above your tank to suit your individual tastes.

***** Note - the Seneye does not work with Apple computers - it only works with Windows based-computers*****

WHY USE SENEYE TO MONITOR YOUR AQUARIUM?

We buy a fish tank to hold water, then a heater or chiller to keep the temperature constant, filters to keep the fish from becoming poisoned, along with lights for illumination and plant growth. Then we spend a fortune on fish, coral, plants and décor which we become very attached to. The next step is to cross our fingers and hope for the best or spend half our lives testing and checking is all okay. There is an alternative, let Seneye protect your loved ones.

Parameters

All parameters are monitored - not only ammonia. No aquarium or pond however mature can be guaranteed as stable and never to crash. Changes in water parameters are bad and can affect aquarists from novice to professional. A range of things from poor aquarium husbandry to equipment failure can cause swings in water parameters that harm your fish. A seneye constantly watches for these dangerous changes which are undetectable to the human eye. Seneye monitors parameters which are key to the survival of aquatic life and likely to change very fast when something does go wrong.

Temperature

Temperature is one of the most important environmental factors in the aquatic environment. Aquarists keep fish from all over the world and they have different requirements on temperature. Pond temperature can swing greatly and this can have major effect on fish, metabolic rates, biological filter activity and oxygenation. Often heaters and chillers are used to control temperature but no matter how expensive your equipment it will eventually stop working; when it does you will wish you had a warning device to let you know things weren’t right where ever you happen to be.

pH

pH in an aquarium or pond is very important to understand as many fish will only thrive in certain range. Even though fish are good at adjusting to pH levels over time when changes are sudden it can kill. For this reason watching for change and understanding fluctuations is very important; as is understanding the potential difference in water chemistry when introducing new fish. ph will constantly change in any aquarium so taking a reading once a week or month may not show you what the real pH is. Constantly taking pH readings is the only way to protect your aquarium from the few times it will crash and understand its natural cycles.

NH3

All fish excrete ammonia as a waste product and if it builds up in aquarium water it will quickly become toxic even at low levels. Free ammonia, NH3 is a toxic gas and is the number 1 killer of fish. NH3 should not be confused with non toxic ammonium NH4 . Traditional ammonia test kits look at NH4 and until now people have not been able to look at NH3 in the low levels that are toxic. Normally aquarium filters are designed to convert or remove NH3 & NH4 through biological activity or chemical absorption. Rarely tested for in mature aquariums NH3 is viewed as a ‘new tank’ issue; the reality is any aquarium can experience a raise in toxic NH3 through; pH change, filter blockages, bacteria crashes (sometimes by unseen insecticides), chemicals additives, or even simple water changes. If you wouldn’t dream of keeping fish without a filter you should invest in making sure it’s working.

Water Level

Without water fish don’t do too well; if a filter tube becomes disconnected or a leak occurs the water level can drop very quickly. The seneye is intelligent enough to know if its in or out of water so no false readings and you have the option to secure it somewhere the level is important and seen online if the level drops below the desired level.

Light

In an aquarium light is one of the most important factors in the growth rate of plants and coral. But how do you know if you have the right type and amount of light? The enhanced features of the seneye reef help the advanced aquarist understand more by giving you PAR, LUX, Kelvin and spectra; to compare models click here. Even if you only have a seneye home or pond you can still see light level compared to previous days and other parameters. In a pond the seasonal variation in the strength and duration of light can influence water temperature as well as algae (green water). On cool thing you can do with the seneye reef is save your light information with labels, Using this will allow you to see differences in light accross the aquarium and when artificial aquarium lights sources start to reduce in output comprimising growth. If you don't have a reef don't worry you can upgrade.

PAR

Photosynthetic active radiation is a measurement of light that is used for photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a process where cells called chlorophyll convert light, carbon dioxide and water into oxygen and sugar. These sugars provide building blocks for all plant and coral life. Ensuring a photosynthetic organism has the right amount and type of light is essential to keep them healthy.

LUX

Lux is a more common measurement of light and included to allow people who are used to working with it for comparison. It has traditionally been used to establish quantity of light in conjunction with kelvin to understand spectral output (quality).

USING SENEYE CONNECT SOFTWARE APPLICATION (SCA)

The Seneye connect application SCA, is free software created by Seneye to allow data from your seneye device to be sent up to your personal seneye.me web site. Using the combination of your home PC and a Seneye USB device offer an innovative low cost way to connect your aquarium to the internet. You can follow the simple setup guide here.

Before downloading and installing the SCA software you will need to register an account on seneye.me. Remember to keep your account logon details written down in a safe place.

Once installed the Seneye connect will appear similar to below. There is often a small amount of time from when you initially launch the application that you will see egg timers, these will clear once the Seneye device sends a reading to the software. The SCA will then display the values for the water in the boxes.

When installed the SCA software you were asked to name any new seneye device attached.

The computer above has two seneye devices directly attached to it shown in green and a greyed out device 'Device 1' on the same seneye account but not connected to this computer. The name shown in bold green are the readings we are being shown at present. The small grey arrow beneath the names will move as the devices are communicated with in sequence. You can use mutiple seneye's on mutiple computers all attached to the same seneye.me account.
